Mak’ Luvin

We have a friend in Shanghai who keeps joking about how much he misses our group of friends in HK (coz we are so awesome of cuz : P), so when we decided to go visit him for his birthday I really wanted to give him a present that reminds him of us, of all the awesome times the bunch of us have spent together.

It only took seconds for everyone to come up with what reminds us of “Mak’Luvin” and our good times with him – his favourite catchphrases. His incredibly funny, witty, abrupt and provocative catchphrases are his trademark. Whenever they are dropped into our conversations, they never fail to amuse, with all of us cracking up laughing so hard our stomachs hurt. These belong to him and him only. It’s just not the same when someone else repeats them. His mannerisms, his snickering, his laugh, his gestures are what makes them so special.

So, this is how the page came about, a page of him, in a stunning photo reminding us of what we thought was another hilarious encounter in Hanoi, together with his name and a list of his infamous mottos.

We hope that everytime he sees his own quotes that remind us of him, he will remember how much happiness and joy he has brought to us over the years also. Happy Birthday again Mak’ Luvin aka Christopher DANGER Mak hahahah…

Accordion Album / Birthday Card

It was my hubby’s birthday in August and not sure why but every year, there is always a mad rush to come up with a present or a last minute thought “ok, alright..I will make him something” followed by “crap, i dont have much time”….: P

So every time, I am not really 100% pleased with what I came up with and every year I promise myself that next year I will give myself more time to make a better one. It’s all a bit like on NYE when you make your new years resolutions.

This year, I have made him an accordion album from scratch with not that many pages so that it’s like an extended card. The idea was to print out instant photos on my pivi printer and then have everyone sign the album on the spot. I think this year, the layout could have been more structured with a bit more details.. (but i just didn’t have enough time, again…)

It was a bit hard to come up with the pages when you don’t know what the photos would look like. Thankfully, I bought the Technique Tuesdays’ “So Totally Happy” stamps by Ali Edwards and also her “Life Circles” stamps, they were very easy to use and the phases made it easy to work with any ‘partying’ photos. Everyone loved the stamps, even the guys noticed that I have actually made a card/ album…. lol

Good-enough-for-now meat pie

It is so hard to find really good meat pies in HK. If you love your aussie meat pies and aussie meat, you would know what I mean when I say I miss the ‘raw’ taste of aussie meat. Some people don’t like it, some people crave it and I am one of the latter.

One night over the long weekend, we really wanted a meat pie, one with loads of fillings and a crispy puffy top. So I decided that we can bake one ourselves.

We added our own ingredients, mince beef (of cuz! and from oz too hehe), onions (finely chopped by Mr Lee), mushrooms (i know it’s not a chicken and mushroom pie but that’s how we like it), a bit of mustard, bayleaves, pepper, tomato sauce and cheated with some beef stock.

Shortcrust pastry also sold out at the local supermarket (yuh and it was only frozen pastry.. ) so we only had puff pastry on the top and decided to do without the crust haha..

How it turned out??? Taste was yummy because we were able to add whatever we wanted. The puff pastry and fillings turned out better than we expected. A spoonful of fillings with crispy puff pastry is not a bad idea.

Except, dont watch tv while you are baking. I burnt the pie b/c even after buzzer went off, I kind of ignored it 😛 So all-in-all, it was a good-enough-for-now pie to stop our craving for better pies..for now..
